Isn’t it unreal how quickly moss grows in our damp climate!?
Relax, we have your perfect moss removal solution to combat it safely and effectively.
What is moss?
There are over 12,000 species of moss, and each organism can store up to 20 times its own weight in water.
The moss plant has spores instead of seeds and has the ability to grow almost anywhere in favourably damp conditions.
The removal of moss from buildings and other outdoor structures is important for a number of reasons, as it promotes humidity/damp and also attracts worms, insects etc. and can cause the growth of algae, lichens and mould.
Moss can also pose a risk to humans as it can increase the risk of allergies and can also increase the quantities of potentially harmful gasses in the atmosphere.
Cleaning Doctor has all the necessary equipment and products to safely and professionally rid buildings and external areas of unsightly, invasive moss, green algae, lichens and moulds.
THIS IS IMPORTANT: Cleaning Doctors are fully trained, certified, and insured to work at heights on your roof. This eliminates any the risk of any extra costs to you due to property damage or injury.
ROOFS:
All due care is taken to protect other areas around your property, including any adjoining buildings. These areas will be protected to avoid any dirt from the roof cleaning getting onto other parts of your property. Your roof will be treated using a Moss Clear Pro treatment which will kill the moss right down to its stem/root.
After a period of 7-14 days, or at a time of your choosing, we will then return and scrape the roof with specialist roof scraping tools.
The roof over a period of weeks will self clean when mother nature re-wets and re-activates the product. A regular maintenance spraying of Moss Clear solution will keep you roof moss free and dirt free. We will explain this in more depth to you at the point of your free, no obligation roof survey.
Depending on the age and condition of some roofs, possibly our sealing services may be applicable. We will best advise and then you decide.
HIGH PRESSURE POWER WASHING ROOFS:
We only suggest high power washing a roof if the tiles are to be recoloured, as often it removes to much of the dye colouring. It is possible to “soft wash” a roof with a low pressure. See our Bio-wash video below.
TARMACADAM DRIVEWAYS COVERED WITH MOSS:
Probably one of our most popular services. The application of Moss Clear Pro is similar to a roof and is totally safe for use on all types of tarmacadam driveways, including patio areas, cement and stone etc. After the moss is killed we wash the area with a rotary cleaning head which gives a more uniform clean without damaging your tarmacadam.
Bio-Wash Moss Roof Cleaning Technology Is A Safe Cleaning Process Using NO High Pressure
At Cleaning Doctor, our protocols of washing roofs are designed to immaculately clean exterior surfaces in a safe and effective way without using high pressure. In the industry, it’s referred to as a soft-washing process.
Our BioWash Roof Cleaning technology is a safe cleaning process with NO risk of damage to your surfaces; that’s our guarantee.
To achieve safe and effective cleaning results on surfaces like roofs, K-rend cladding, fences, patios, driveways and many other surfaces, a pre-treatment of Bio-Wash cleaner or Moss Clear Pro (which are specialised industry certified cleaning solutions) is firstly applied to break down years of grime i.e. algae, lichens, moss and then our professionally designed cleaning tools rinse the surfaces without the use of high pressure. This is referred to as The Cleaning Doctor Bio-Wash Soft Washing Cleaning Programme.
Bio-Wash Cleaning Technology Is Safe, Effective and Affordable.

There are a number of issues which can be caused or exacerbated by the presence of moss:
MOULD:
Mould is a fungus which grows in multicellular filaments called hyphae. Depending on where it grows you could be dealing with various types of mould, which poses many detrimental effects on health. Mould spores can be airborne and easily inhaled by humans and pets. This can cause respiratory problems such as asthma.
The chance of mould increases with indoor dampness, which can damage the surface that it appears on.
LICHEN:
Many forms of lichens are categorised as poisonous. They grow slowly all over rocks walls, trees and even in water.
There are 3 main types of lichen, foliose, fruticose and crustose. Lichen typically arises from algae and is part of the algae family.
When it forms from cyanobacteria, it becomes harmful to humans and animals. The toxicity of lichens can be released into the air and water and therefore can affect aquatic environments and life, which makes it easier to be ingested.
ALGAE:
Algae is a single celled, microscopic organism that can grow on buildings in various colours including red, green and black.
Moisture is crucial food for the growth of algae/moulds and their invasion by a damp climate. Damp conditions cause it to thrive on exterior surfaces, and especially those receiving little or no direct sunlight can anticipate algae/mould growth at a fast pace.
